I had panic attack over piracy of ‘Malaika’ – Toyin Abraham

  Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham said on Tuesday that the piracy of her cinematic effort had resulted in her having panic attacks and being hospitalised at various times. Abraham spoke with newsmen in Lagos as the police announced the arrest of five suspects in relation to the pirated movie ‘Malaika,’ which, according to the actress, gulped N500 million in production. Abraham, who said she has taken up the fight against pirates, commended the police, and especially AIG IG Idowu Owohunwa, for matching their words with action by arresting the suspects. Earlier, the Federal Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, said it had arrested five suspects, including two women, over the alleged piracy of the movie. Residents Flee Katsina Community As Bandits Intensify attacks

  Residents of Nahuta village, Batsari Local Government Area, Katsina State, have started fleeing the community to seek safety and shelter elsewhere due to constant attacks from bandits. On Monday, January 15, 2024, after another attack was launched on the community by bandits, residents started moving their children and family members out of the village. Meanwhile, Nigerian Military Joint Task Force Northwest Operation, Hadarin Daji, repelled an attack on a joint military camp. The troops covering Sokoto, Katsina, Kebbi, and Zamfara states repelled the attack on Monday. Katsina is one of the states in the North-West plagued by activities of bandits, a group of loosely organised armed gangs reported to have well over 120 factions in the region.

14 states spends N21bn on foreign trips despite zero FDI

  Despite spending at least N21.04bn on foreign trips in the last three years, 14 state governments have failed to attract any form of foreign investments into the domains. The states in question are Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Ebonyi, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Nasarawa, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara. Between 2021 and the third quarter of 2023, these states failed to attract any of the $14.85bn that foreign investors channelled into Nigeria. Between 2021 and 2023, Bauchi spent N3.81bn on foreign trips without having anything to show for it. Bayelsa spent N1.99bn, Benue spent N1.33bn, Borno spent N1.73bn, Cross River spent N663.16m, Ebonyi spent N1.01bn, Edo spent N1.77bn, Gombe spent N32.09m, Imo spent N541.23m, Jigawa spent N1.10bn, Nasarawa spent N541.26m, Taraba spent N2.52bn, Yobe spent N1.24bn, and Zamfara spent N2.77bn.   The Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Audu, on Monday, said the Federal Government plans to start the production of military hardware in Ajaokuta Steel Mill. 4 burnt to death in Kwara tanker fire

  A tragic multiple-vehicle accident occurred along the Okołowo expressway in Kwara State, resulting in the death of at least four individuals who were burnt beyond recognition. The incident involved a petrol-laden truck that lost control after a tyre burst, leading to a head-on collision with another truck carrying soya beans. A third truck loaded with soft drinks ran into them, causing a massive f!re. The blaze also affected three schoolchildren and two motorbike riders passing by. As of the latest report, the fire service faced challenges in extinguishing the fire, and several passengers were believed to be trapped.

Fubara swears in 16 new permanent secretaries
